Google is breaking long Android tradition dating back to Android 1.5 Cupcake with the announcement of the new Android version.
Until the last Android version, Pie, Google was naming each version with desserts. Now Google is getting rid off the sweet treats that have been with Android since 2009.
The next Android version, Android Q is going to know as Android 10. Android 10 is the upcoming tenth major release and the 17th version of the Android mobile operating system.
Yes, you heard it right — a generic, straight forward Android version name.
The community was brainstorming to find an appropriate dessert name that starts with “Q”. But Google made the whole process simple — they just named the new version as Android 10. So Google is officially done with dessert names and is shifting to a simpler numerical naming scheme.
Apart from the new name scheme Google also showcased its new Android branding with major design changes since 2014. The rebranded logo replace full-body droid or robot is now replaced with new Android head graphics. Google also changed the font style that accompanied with the logo too. Now you can see a more rounded font style with less boldness.
Android 10 is currently in public beta and the final release of Android 10 is scheduled for release in Q3 of 2019.
