Everything that surrounds the Apple car is now a rumor. The latest one is that Apple plans to invest $3.6 billion in Kia Motors to build an Apple car. Kia is part of the Hyundai Motor Group. In January it became known that Apple and Hyundai were negotiating a vehicle cooperation.
Although there is no formal announcement between the parties, and certainly nothing that has been confirmed in the face of public opinion, it seems that investors are quite confident about Kia’s work on the future Apple car. The share price of the South Korean automaker then rose sharply.
According to Bloomberg, citing the South Korean daily Dong-a Ilbo, on February 17, the two companies want to sign a cooperation agreement. Apple and Kia did not comment on the report.
With this collaborative strategy, it seems that Apple would seek to produce with Kia up to 100,000 cars a year in 2024 at the Korean manufacturer’s plants, which could eventually reach an annual capacity of almost 400,000 cars.
