Shortly after launching the iPhone 12, the first terminals on the apple with support for 5G networks, Apple is already thinking about the next generation of connectivity, 6G.
According to information from Bloomberg signed by Mark Gurman, one of the most reliable sources when it comes to future Apple products, those in Cupertino have opened engineering vacancies whose objective will be to work on projects related to 6G. More specifically, the research of wireless systems.
Vacancies are available at the Cupertino and San Diego offices. It is in these places where Apple dedicates efforts to the development of wireless technologies and chip designs.
The job description makes it clear that the company, unlike what happened with 5G, intends to go ahead to achieve independence of network components. Recall that, currently, Apple depends on Qualcomm to obtain the 5G modems of the iPhone.
This is not the first step that Apple takes to enter the 6G. In October 2020, they joined the Next G Alliance, an initiative driven by companies that want to develop 6G solutions. Among the companies that make up the alliance are Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Nokia, Qualcomm, Intel, and Ericsson, among others.
In fact, 6G is not expected to hit the market until at least 2030, according to several industry analysts, the theoretical maximum speeds offered by 5G are already so high that there will probably be no demand for more in that time.
