Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus and visible face within the brand, leaves the company just one day before presenting its next flagship, the OnePlus 8T.
The company has not officially confirmed the news, but the absence of its name from the official pages of the company is a clear signal. Various reports that appeared online also would confirm Pei’s departure from the company a few weeks ago.
According to TechCrunch, Pei would have left OnePlus to start a new company, although it is unknown whether the new venture is related to tech or at least pertaining to OnePlus. The report states that Pei would be creating a “new company” and that he would be in talks “with investors to raise capital.”
Therefore, no problem in OnePlus has motivated Pei’s departure from the firm. The underlying reason is simple — after seven years, Carl Pei has decided that he wants to start over.
Carl Pei co-founded OnePlus alongside Pete Lau in 2013, and the brand is quite different from the rest, with a history marked in its beginnings by very aggressive prices and quite differentiating strategies.
The company is expected to present the new flagship smartphone, OnePlus 8T, on October 14, and this departure arrives one day before the presentation of said device.
