The creator of the popular game Fortnite, Epic Games, has failed in an attempt to carry its app store dispute with Apple to the UK.
The UK antitrust tribunal dismissed a lawsuit from Epic. The judge ruled that the Competition Appeal Tribunal has no jurisdiction and that the lawsuit must be fought in the US. However, the court partially allowed a similar lawsuit against Google.
Epic recently also filed a competition complaint against Apple with the EU Commission. Apple used control of the iOS operating system on its iPhones to give itself an advantage and, at the same time, block competitors, argued Epic.
In the end, the conflict could affect how apps are sold on smartphones — and how much money platforms such as Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store are allowed to withhold from the purchase price.
Both Google and Apple have banned Fortnite from respective app stores in August.
