Google has long been known to pay Apple a hefty sum each year to make sure it remains the default search engine on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Analyst at Bernstein reports Google will pay Apple $15 billion to have its search engine remain the default option on Apple products in 2021. This will be the record amount that Apple will receive from Google. Previously, Google payments did not exceed $12 billion.
The analysts’ forecast is based on the analysis of Google’s costs of attracting traffic and Apple documents. Bernstein analyst Tony Sacconagi believes that in 2022 Google will pay Apple $18-20 billion to remain the default search engine in Safari.
Despite criticism of Apple using Google as the default search engine in browsers for iPhones, iPads and computers, the company explains that Google Search is the most popular search engine in the world today, familiar to almost all users. Therefore, the latter prefer to deal with what is familiar to them.
Although, Apple is working on its own search engine for its platforms and may replace Google with it in future.
