Yet again, Microsoft installs unwanted apps on Windows 10 without user permission.
Recently, Microsoft has tested new sales channels — users of Windows 10 were surprised by a reboot, then four additional programs were installed. Specifically, non-local versions of Office, so-called Progressive Web Apps (PWA), were installed.
According to ZDNet and The Verge, these auto-installed apps appear prominently in the Windows 10 start menu — whether it is a regular operating system or Insider Preview Program. The PWAs from Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Word then run in the browser.
In Microsoft’s own Edge, these PWAs can be viewed via “edge://apps” and can be uninstalled again via “Apps and Features.”
Although, the Progressive Web Apps from Office are by no means free but require an active subscription and a corresponding account. The manufacturer has so far left unanswered why Microsoft installs the web versions of Office without asking.
It was not until the summer of 2020 that the Windows 10 developer aroused great resentment because the new Chromium-based Edge replaced the existing Edge browser without the users’ consent. In addition, there was the obligatory pinning on the desktop and in the Windows 10 taskbar.
