Qualcomm Unveils Quick Charge 4 Technology — Charges 5 Hours of Battery in 5 Minutes

Qualcomm has introduced the latest generation of its fast-charging technology with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 — claims to deliver up to 20% faster charging, improved efficiency.

During the unveiling of its Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm announced the new Quick Charge 4 fast charging technology, which will be available with the next-generation processor.

So, Compared to Quick Charge 3.0, Quick Charge 4 is up-to 20 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficient, while charging up to 5° C cooler.

According to Qualcomm, the new Quick Charge 4 can charge your battery for 5 hours of use in just 5 minutes and also engineered to charge a typical smartphone from zero to 50 percent in about 15 minutes or less.

Other features in Quick Charge 4 includes integration of USB Type-C and USB-PD support, making the industry’s most popular battery charging solution available on the widest variety of cables and adapters. Also, the new Battery Saver adds advanced features that are meant to extend battery cycle life and offer much better safety.

INOV (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) version 3 is an algorithm engineered so your portable devices can determine what power level to request at any point in time, which allows for optimum power transfer while maximizing efficiency.

Qualcomm confirmed that a compatible device can request to within 20mV or lower the specific power needed to charge while also running advanced algorithms for case, battery, chip, as well as connector.

Last but not least, Quick Charge 4 comes with Dual Charge support by including a second power management IC in the smartphone. Whenever you charge your phone via Dual Charge, the energy will be divided, thus allowing for more efficient thermal dissipation and reducing charge time.

Quick Charge 4 is expected to be commercially available in the first half of 2017.
