Snapdragon 778G: Qualcomm’s New 5G Mid-Range Processor

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 778G 5G. This new processor is a new variant of the Snapdragon 780G presented a couple of months ago by the brand.

It is a more powerful processor than the previous one and continues to bet on 5G for mid-range smartphones. Snapdragon 778G 5G is called to be one of the most popular processors within the mid-range with 5G on Android.

Snapdragon 778G 5G is similar to Snapdragon 780G, although Qualcomm has introduced a number of changes to it. One big difference is that this new processor is made in a 6 nm process, while the 780G is made in a 5 nm process.

Another change is found in the support for the cameras. This chip supports single sensors up to 192 Mpx, dual 36 + 20 Mpx, and triple combinations up to 22 Mpx. This offers manufacturers many possibilities when it comes to introducing cameras.

The Snapdragon 778G uses eight cores in a 4 + 4 structure, with Qualcomm again using the Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55. There is also a graphics unit called Adreno 642L and a 32-bit interface for LPDDR5-6400 memory.

According to Qualcomm, the CPU performance should increase by 40 percent and the GPU performance by 40 percent compared to the Snapdragon 768G, which roughly corresponds to the performance increase from the 768G to the 780G (+ 40% and + 50%).

For 5G connectivity, Snapdragon 778G 5G features the Snapdragon X53 5G modem that promises download speeds of up to 3.3 Gbps. In addition, the processor will have support for WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, dual-frequency GPS, USB 3.1, and USB-C. It matches the Snapdragon 780G in all these respects. Fast charging also makes an appearance in this processor, which has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.

At the moment, it is not known when the first Android phones with Snapdragon 778G 5G as their processor will arrive. It is speculated that the Honor 50 will be the first and that it will not take long to be official.
