Qualcomm announced its latest and top-of-the-line mobile processor — Snapdragon 845 — heavily focused on multimedia, virtual reality, and security.
The new Snapdragon 845 is a combination processors and systems, such as a GPU, CPU, ISP, and DSP, all wrapped into a single unit — going to powerup insanely the next year’s flagship smartphones.
The biggest and most notable feature of Snapdragon 845 is its ability to capture 4K video in HDR at up to 60 fps. Moreover, the platform utilizes Qualcomm’s latest gigabit LTE and Wi-Fi modems for connectivity guarantees up to 20% faster peak and real-world speeds compared to the last generation X16 LTE modem.
The Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform based on ARM Cortex and features 2MB L3 cache, claims to reduce memory access bandwidth by up to 75%. Adreno 630 Visual Processing Subsystem (including GPU, VPU and DPU) promises 30% improvement to graphics and video rendering compared to the previous generation.
The Snapdragon 845 possess 3rd Generation Qualcomm’s Hexagon 685 DSP co-processor to handle AI user experiences to deliver richer camera, voice, XR and gaming. When comes to energy efficiency 845 cuts down on overall power consumption and included Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology — capable of up to a 50% charge in only 15 minutes.
In security sector, Qualcomm designed the new Snapdragon processor with an entirely new Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit (SPU) that uses biometrics for authentication — help protect personal data with vault-like security.
Currently, Snapdragon 845 is sampling to Qualcomm’s customers and is expected to begin shipping in commercial devices in early 2018.
