After TikTok, Trump threatens to ban Alibaba in the United States

Donald Trump has tightened his pace in the conflict with China in the past few days. At the beginning of August, Trump initially acted against the video app TikTok and the messenger service Wechat.

On Friday evening, the US president had signed an order that would oblige the Tiktok owner Bytedance to reverse the 2017 acquisition of Musical.ly. Bytedance is also no longer allowed to own property in the USA that is used for the operation of Tiktok.

The only alternative: Bytedance would have to destroy all data from US users. The company would have 90 days for this.

Now Trump has targeted another well-known Chinese company: Alibaba. He is examining a ban on the e-commerce giant in the United States, Trump announced at a press conference on Saturday.

The president did not comment on what exactly the US government accuses Alibaba. In addition to Alibaba, other Chinese companies are also threatened with a ban in the USA.
