WhatsApp has begun work on the ability to hide online status. According to WaBetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging service is working on incorporating a long-awaited privacy option where users can choose who can see that they are online.
Currently, in the privacy section, WhatsApp allows users to choose who can see their last seen time, profile picture, about info and status. In addition to the existing privacy features, the new functionality to hide the online status is to be rolled out in the upcoming update.
According to WABetaInfo, users will be able to show their online presence to all messenger users or set the same settings as the last seen time feature. Thus, all users of the messenger or only contacts will be able to see the status “Online”. It will also be possible to hide your presence from all WhatsApp users or from specific contacts.
WhatsApp is reportedly planning to implement this feature in the beta version of the messenger for Android, iOS and PC in the near future.
