Old Xiaomi users bad news for you — Xiaomi ending MIUI updates for few devices.
Couple of weeks ago Xiaomi rolled out the stable version of their new custom Android version — MIUI 9 — with lots of features. Also, Xiaomi surprised the users by providing MIUI 9 update to their five-year-old devices too.
During MIUI 9 launch event, Xiaomi said that there are more than 5 million users of Mi 2 and Mi 2S, and that’s the main reason why company determined to release the MIUI 9 update to these old phones.
And now Xiaomi confirmed on MIUI Forum that, from November 15, 2017, Xiaomi has suspended the development of MIUI 9 for Mi 2 and Mi 2S along with Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, and Mi Note — so MIUI 9 is going to be the final major update for these devices. Xiaomi also has suspended MIUI Global Beta ROM updates for these devices saying that MIUI Global Beta 7.11.16 is the last Global Beta update.
Xiaomi also noted that MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM for the above six devices will be released gradually from December 2017 to January 2018.
Usually, a majority of smartphone manufactures end new major upgrades to their outdated devices. And now Xiaomi also doing the same thing. According to Xiaomi the reason for suspending the future MIUI updates for these smartphones are based on evaluating the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc.
