Starbase, Texas: Elon Musk Announces SpaceX City Just To Launch Rockets

In Boca Chica Village, a settlement in Cameron County, Texas, is the SpaceX Texas Launch Site, the spaceport of space and telecommunications company SpaceX, whose main owner is Elon Musk. Musk has now announced on Twitter that there will be a SpaceX city called Starbase.

Starbase would be dedicated exclusively to offering everything necessary for the aerospace industry. This week, before the launch of the Starship, Elon Musk advanced his plans with a direct message: “Creating the city of Starbase, Texas.

Everything indicates that Boca Chica itself will probably be the base of that new city — the county judge’s office has confirmed contacts with Musk and Spacex, and the presentation of plans to completely change the area and turn it into a city.

SpaceX made an unusual offer to the residents of Boca Chica Village as early as 2019. In a letter, the company offered homeowners three times the current price of their homes. Some people accepted the money, but many others refused. SpaceX then reduced the offer to twice the estimated value of the home; after a television report that exposed the practice, the bid was again threefold.

In October 2020 it was reported that there are at least two owners left who do not want to sell because they would not find anything of equal value in the area for the proceeds. The village does not even have its own well yet. The water is brought in by tanker.
