Microsoft has released the stable version of the Chromium-based Edge browser back in January 2020, in order to use the latest version users have to download it from the official website. So the majority of users are still using the old version of the Edge browser on their Windows PC.
Now Microsoft is going to fix that problem as the company is rolling out its new Chromium-based Edge browser via an update to all Windows 10 users — means more than 1 billion Windows 10 devices in use is getting the new Edge browser.
According to the Microsoft support article, the redesigned Edge browser will automatically install through Windows Update on Windows 10 version 1803 and higher. Although this is a gradual rollout, so you might not see it immediately on Windows Update just yet.
So after the update, Chromium Edge will be the default Windows 10 browser. Means existing Edge browser will be replaced with the revamped one — unlike when installing manually.
This new version provides the best in class compatibility with extensions and websites. Additionally, this new version offers excellent support for the latest rendering capabilities, modern web applications, and powerful developer tools across all supported OS platforms.
