The next generation of Universal Service Bus(USB), USB4 is ready now to make file transfer faster. USB Implementers Forum released actual technical specifications of next USB architecture.
According to its specs, USB4 will be integrated with Intel’s Thunderbolt technology to double transfer speeds compared to today’s fastest USB 3.2 and 8 times the speed of the original USB 3 standard.
USB4 follows the two-lane operation, where data is sent over two separate lanes, with speeds of 20Gbps on each using existing USB Type-C cables to reach speed up to 40Gbps.
Other feature includes, USB 4 is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 which also uses the same Type-C connector. Well, of course. And it’s backward compatible with older versions, including USB 3.2 and USB 2.0.
We have to wait until 2020 to see devices like controller chips, external hard drives, laptops, and dongles equipped with USB4 support.
