Polish game company CD Projekt Red has tweeted that the popular game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will be updated for next-gen consoles on December 14, 2022.
The game will be available for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. At the same time, the improvements are coming to the version for Windows PC. The new content that will come with the upgrade will later also be available for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch version. There is no date for this yet.
The game includes dozens of graphics, performance and technical improvements. When it comes to the technical improvements for the newer consoles and the PC, the developers mention “ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles and a large number of mods that are integrated directly into the gaming experience” .
There will also be additional content inspired by The Witcher series on Netflix. CD Projekt Red will soon be revealing more details about the optimized graphics and other extras in a stream on Twitch. There is no specific date for this either.
Updates are free for owners of any previous version. If you purchase it now, you can download it under the complete edition that includes all the DLC sold separately.
Details of the next-generation console update, including play videos, will be distributed on CD Projekt Red’s official Twitch channel in the future.
The Witcher 3 was released on PC/PS4/Xbox One in 2015. In addition to the enormous popularity and the release of several additional content, there was a surprise Nintendo Switch version and a Netflix live-action drama in 2019. As of April 2022, it has sold over 40 million copies.
The next-gen upgrade was supposed to arrive in the first half of 2021. Still, due to changes in the development system and due to the epidemic of the coronavirus infection, it was released in a state that was far from the next-generation machine.
A new sequel to The Witcher 3, called Project Polaris, is already in the early stages of development and has been announced as a trilogy.
