New rumors state that in 2021, Apple is planning to launch completely redesigned MacBook Pros with Apple Silicon and screens with mini-LED technology.
Recently introduced Macs with M1 processors has proven to be true beasts of performance but came with a lack of design innovation — same displays and same design. But according to the latest rumors, Apple is going to change that in 2021.
According to the renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who specializes in making specific predictions about Apple products, the new MacBook Pro will show a completely new design, along with new processors of the “Apple M” series and the mini-LED display. He also revealed that the 2022 Apple opts for an aggressive pricing strategy for MacBook Air than the recently announced models.
Apple believes that screens with mini-LED technology offer many of OLEDs’ advantages, but without its drawbacks such as the well-known ‘burning’ of the panels. Mini-LED is an improvement on current LEDs that, as its name suggests, greatly reduces (up to 1,000 times) the size of the LEDs on a typical monitor or television.
Ming-Chi Kuo explains that Apple will maintain the current price levels for the 2021 MacBook Pro as Apple Silicon processors are substantially cheaper than Intel’s, so the profit margin can be used to offset the scale and introduce mini-LED technology without increasing the price.
Kuo says that the transition to mini-LED panels will begin in the first quarter of 2021 and that later the new iPads will also use this technology. So we can expect up to 3 new MacBook models with Apple Silicon processors.
