Microsoft has announced the “Azure Space” initiative, which relies on cooperation with Elon Musk’s space company SpaceX.
SpaceX Starlink satellite network will provide high-speed, low-latency broadband connections for the “Azure Modular Datacenter.” The cooperation with SpaceX complements Microsoft’s existing partnership with the European satellite company SES.
With Microsoft Azure Space, Redmond Giant wants to make connectivity and spatial computing more and more accessible to any type of sector and industry. For example, agriculture, energy, telecommunications or administrations.
By teaming up with SpaceX, Azure Space will not only be used for projects exclusively related to space. Many Microsoft customers carry out their tasks in remote locations, which does not serve them, at least as they should, the options of Microsoft’s global network, made up of more than 250,000 kilometers of the submarine, terrestrial, and metropolitan optical fiber. With Microsoft Azure Space, they can have greater options for accessing data and have greater bandwidth in their connections.
