Snapdragon X65 and X62

Qualcomm has presented Snapdragon X65 and X62 — new generation of 5G modems that will accompany future phones with a Snapdragon processor.

The most striking of these is the Snapdragon X65 (since they have not specified many details about the X62), the first Qualcomm modem capable of reaching a transfer speed of 10 Gbps, a great evolution compared to the X60 it is capable of reaching the 7 Gbps, present in the newly launched Snapdragon 888.

Beyond speed, the new Qualcomm modem has some features that add value, such as:

  • Have an upgradeable architecture:  This modem has the ability to improve through software updates, which allows it to continue to improve over time.
  • Support for new antennas: The Snapdragon X65 is compatible with the new antenna system. The Qualcomm 545s are the company’s first antenna system with AI tuning technology.
  • More energy efficient thanks to an energy tracking solution and PowerSave 2.0 technology.
  • More comprehensive spectrum aggregation across all key 5G bands and combinations.

The company expects this modem to be available in commercial devices by the end of 2021. Recently MediaTek has also presented the M80 — first its own 5G modem suitable for mmWave.
