Apple Plans To Produce 230 Million iPhones In 2021

Apple has announced its contract manufacturers in Asia that it will produce up to 96 million iPhones in the first half of 2021. In total, Apple plans to produce 230 million smartphones in 2021, including the upcoming new iPhone models. This would be 20 percent more than in 2019 and would correspond to the production volume in 2015.

Nikkei Asia learned this from people familiar with the matter. This should also include a high-ranking employee of a contract manufacturer.

In October, Apple presented four iPhone 12 variants with 5G technology — iPhone 12 Pro Max, 12 Pro, 12 and 12 Mini. According to a senior manager of a contract manufacturer, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, in particular, are selling better than expected. In terms of sales, the iPhone 12 is at the expected level, and the iPhone 12 Mini is expected to sell less well than expected.

In 2018 and 2019, Apple sold fewer iPhones than in the previous year. According to Nikkei Asia, Apple also plans to expand the production of its new laptops, including the Macbook Pro and Macbook Air. The new models are the first to appear with Apple’s own M1 chip and are no longer based on chipsets from Intel.
