The tech world is buzzing with excitement as new information about the coming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 single-chip system surface.
According to RGcloudS, a Twitter user, the CPU would include an Arm Cortex-X4 super core with a clock speed of 3.7 GHz, making it substantially faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
The Cortex-X4 core is a significant improvement over the Cortex-X3 core in the existing Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which has a top clock speed of 3.2 GHz. The Cortex-X4 offers a considerable gain in performance and overall architecture enhancements, with a clock speed that is 500 MHz faster than the Cortex-X3.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to be a major advance over its predecessor. Still, with the special edition Snapdragon for Samsung Galaxy S24, there may be even more to look forward to. This CPU will feature a higher frequency of the Cortex-X core, similar to the Galaxy S23 phones. If Qualcomm and Samsung continue to manufacture and employ such SoCs, the Cortex-X4 core in the next generation Snapdragon for Galaxy may reach close to 4.0 GHz, perhaps beating the Apple A17 Bionic SoC for the next generation iPhone.
The Cortex-X4 clock speed of 3.7 GHz has already been leaked, marking a 15% boost over the Cortex-X3 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. This is an outstanding update that will almost certainly result in a big increase in performance.
The faster clock speed of the Cortex-X4 processor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may result in higher power consumption, shorter battery life, and higher temperatures. All of these aspects might influence the processor’s overall performance and usefulness; thus, how Qualcomm will approach these challenges remains to be seen.
