Instagram Will Introduce New Parental Controls On Its Platform

Instagram has introduced new parental control features for the safety of teens on the platform, said the head of the social network, Adam Mosseri.

According to Mosseri, the company has been working for a long time to ensure that minors can work in the application safely. Some tools are scheduled to launch next year.

One of the new measures that will provide greater security among young people is the impossibility of tagging or mentioning minors who do not follow that user. That is if a person tries to tag a minor and he does not follow that account, he will not be able to do so.

Additionally, the user you were trying to tag will not receive any prompts. On the other hand, in January 2022, Instagram will allow mass removal of the content that they have published over time. For example, images, videos, ‘likes’, comments, etc.

Parents and guardians will also have access to tools that will offer better control over what their children do on the platform. In March, Instagram will activate a function that will allow you to know how much time your children spend in the app.

Also, teenagers will be able to inform their parents about their complaints about users — in this case; adults will be able to contact them.

As per the official announcement, “Parents and guardians will be able to see how much time their teens spend on Instagram and set time limits.” Take a Break feature, which Instagram announced earlier, will start to work in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Instagram has previously been at the center of a scandal over content for minors. Since Instagram have more teen users than Facebook, new parental control features will help to put a leash on the young generation’s social media life.
