Samsung wins contract to make Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC

Qualcomm has decided to choose Samsung as the manufacturer of the Snapdragon 875 SoC.

In the past, Qualcomm hired TSMC to manufacture its own Snapdragon chips, or hired both Samsung and TSMC. This time it seems that Samsung embraced the whole contract, and the proceeds could range from $850 million to $1 billion.

According to sources, the Snapdragon 875 has begun to be tested at Samsung’s factory in Korea on a 5nm line using the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) engraving technique.

The mass production of Snapdragon 875 could be started at the plant in Hwaseong, a city in the province of Gyeonggi in South Korea.

The Snapdragon 875 will be Qualcomm’s most powerful chip next year, used in nearly every 2021 high-end phones.
