MediaTek has quietly introduced its latest chipset, the Dimensity 7050, which is set to debut in the upcoming Realme 11 series smartphones.
This new chipset is actually a rebranding of MediaTek’s existing Dimensity 700, 800, 900, and 1000 series chips, reintroduced under the new Dimensity 6000 and 7000 series. This move aims to simplify MediaTek’s product portfolio and make its naming system easier to understand for consumers. However, while the names may have changed, the core technology and specifications of the SoCs remain largely the same.
The Dimensity 7050 is based on TSMC’s 6nm process and features a CPU with two high-performance Cortex-A78 cores and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The two high-performance cores run at a frequency of 2.6 GHz, while the six energy-efficient cores run at a frequency of 2.0 GHz. The chipset also comes with a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU, LPDDR5/4x RAM support, and UFS 3.1/2.1 flash memory support.
The Dimensity 7050 chipset supports screens with resolutions of up to 2520×1080 pixels and refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The camera support is impressive, with lenses up to 200MP, 4K HDR video recording, and advanced features such as hardware HDR video, triple HDR-ISP, and MENR. The chipset also offers HEVC and H.264 encoding support, as well as compatibility with HEVC, H.264, MPEG-1/2/4, and VP-9 codecs.
The gaming performance of the Dimensity 7050 chipset will be one of its main selling factors. To ensure seamless gameplay for users, the CPU includes capabilities such as Wi-Fi Rapid Channel, 5G HSR mode specialised to gaming, and power-saving hotspot technology. The processor also supports global navigation systems (GNSS) and the most recent Wi-Fi 6 standard, significantly enhancing its capabilities.
The MediaTek Dimensity 7050 platform offers a significant upgrade to lower mid-range smartphones.
