Fortnite Apple lawsuit

In the dispute between the makers of the online game Fortnite and Apple, a judge in California put the brakes on the iPhone company.

A court in California brought Epic Games its first success in the dispute over the Unreal Engine and Fortnite on the evening of August 24, 2020. Apple may not block the developer access to the Unreal Engine for the time being. The suspension of the popular battle royale game, Fortnite remains.

According to the federal judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, “Epic Games and Apple can quarrel with each other, but their dispute must not create problems for the others.

The decision is only provisional. The ruling, which is effective immediately, because Apple threatened to cut Epic Games’ access to SDKs and other developer tools on iOS and macOS, which is necessary for the Unreal Engine.

Although Judge Rogers has decided to block Apple’s decision against Epic regarding the Unreal Engine, at the same time, he has decided not to allow the restoration of Fortnite on iOS. The game will continue to be unavailable unless Epic decides to retrace its steps.

It will now be interesting to see how Epic Games proceeds with Fortnite. A decision should soon be made for the battle royale shooter — the current season will end at the end of August 2020. The update required for the next season will not be able to be installed on iOS according to the current situation.
