Sony unveils console of the future — PlayStation 5 & PlayStation 5 Digital Edition

Sony finally revealed one of the most anticipated gaming hardware — PlayStation 5.

Sony tagged its new PlayStation 5 as ‘Future of Gaming,’ and true to its label, the new next-generation video game console indeed looks ultra-futuristic.

The new gaming console will be available in two versions — PlayStation 5 Standard Edition with an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with no optical drive.

PlayStation 5 with futuristic looks

When it comes to its design, as I told the new PlayStation 5 looks futuristic. The console looks sleek and vertical design dominated by curved white edging and a blue glow that surrounds the black core. The PS5 stands vertically with USB-A and USB-C ports at the front and vents along the top curve. The aesthetic design of PS5 matches the DualSense controller design perfectly.

PlayStation 5 Specification

Back in March, Sony revealed full PS5 hardware specifications. The console equipped with 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and a custom 825GB SSD features a custom eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU clocked at 3.5GHz (variable frequency) along with a custom GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture hardware that promises 10.28 teraflops and 36 compute units clocked at 2.23GHz (also variable frequency). The PS5 will also support 8K graphics, 4K graphics at a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3D audio.

New PlayStation 5 Accessories

Along with PlayStation 5, Sony also announced a range of accessories — a Charging Station for charging two DualSense controllers simultaneously, a new HD camera, remote control for media, and a 3D wireless headset. The pricing of the accessories remains unknown at this moment.

New Games on PlayStation 5

A ton of new games that are expected to come to the console by 2021 was also showcased. An expanded and enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto V will be available along with an exclusive PS5 Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The list of games follows Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil Village, NBA 2K21, Deathloop, Hitman III, and more. Price and availability of PS5

As for now, the price and availability of Sony PlayStation 5 is a mystery. The first PlayStation retailed at 350$, the PS3 at 500$ and the PS4 at 400$. The last version of PlayStation dipped to match the market, but PS5 is going to cost more with all the new changes and accessories.
