Dimensity 1080 5G: New MediaTek Mid-Range SoC Supports Cameras Up To 200 Megapixels

MediaTek released a new mid-range chip — Dimensity 1080 — with 5G support.

MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G looks like a modification of the Dimensity 1050 chip but comes as a successor to Dimensity 920. Compared to it, Dimensity 1080 delivers higher performance, better efficiency, and enhanced camera features.

The Dimensity 1080 has an octa-core CPU, with two ARM Cortex-A78 cores as the star at a maximum frequency of 2.6 GHz. The GPU is the Mali G68, and the chip is manufactured in a 6-nanometer process.

Additionally, there is a MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 network engine. This solution allows you to participate in an online game using one 5G-enabled SIM card while answering phone calls at a different number.

At the photographic level, it supports sensors of up to 200 megapixels. The new Dimensity 1080 is capable of processing image information from the sensor using the Imagiq ISP and supports up to 4 cameras. In addition, the chip integrates a hardware-level 4K HDR video recording engine to ensure excellent low-light shooting effects.

With MediaTek’s 3rd generation APU, you can also upgrade the platform’s power efficiency while gaming. The display of a smartphone equipped with Dimensity 1080 will be able to offer Full HD+ resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

The first smartphones based on Dimensity 1080 will begin to appear in the fourth quarter of 2022.
