Mi 11: Xiaomi Launched New Flagship With Snapdragon 888 In China

Xiaomi has presented the Mi 11 as the new flagship smartphone in its home country China. With the launch, it will be the first smartphone available with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.

Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 888 at the beginning of the month. The new SoC from 5 nm production from Samsung brings ARM’s large Cortex-X1 core and the new Cortex-A78 cores into a smartphone processor for the first time. Qualcomm has also drilled out the chip for GPU and especially ISP and AI performance. The Snapdragon X60 modem is fully integrated again after two interim solutions.

Equipped with Snapdragon 888, 8 GB LPDDR5-RAM and 128 GB UFS 3.1 — costs CNY 3,999 (around $610, Rs. 45,000). The doubling to 256 GB of memory brings the price to CNY 4,299 (about $660, Rs. 48,300) and with 12 GB of RAM it costs CNY 4,699 (roughly $720, Rs. 52,800).

Xiaomi Mi 11 comes with a large screen — front is dominated by the 6.81 inch screen with AMOLED panel, which combines a resolution of 3,120 × 1,440 pixels. But more amazing will be the refresh rate of 120 Hz, a jump from 90 Hz that will make everything go much more fluid. The fingerprint reader is integrated into the screen. A small selfie camera with 20 megapixels is housed in the top left of the panel.

A newly designed camera with three lenses on the back is responsible for photos and videos. It seems that Xiaomi has opted for a more restrained style for the rear, with a set of three sensors for the rear cameras that does not stand out too much, thanks to the use of pieces of the same color as the case.

Xiaomi Mi 11 launched 3

The 1 / 1.33-inch main sensor from Samsung offers 108 megapixels, with which 8K video recordings at 30 FPS are also possible. A second camera for ultra-wide-angle shots with a 123-degree field of view comes to 13 megapixels. The third camera with a 50 mm focal length in 35mm format works with 5 megapixels and is also responsible for macro shots up to 3 cm.

Xiaomi has taken more care of the sound this time, thanks to an alliance with Harman Kardon to integrate stereo speakers in this new device.

Depending on the variant, the Mi 11 is from 74.6 × 164.3 × 8.06 mm (W × H × D) in size and 196 grams in weight. Covered with leather, the weight sinks marginally to 192 grams, but the depth increases to 8.56 mm. Regardless of this, there is always a battery with 4,600 mAh in the smartphone, which should be charged with 55 watts within 45 minutes using Mi TurboCharge.

Wireless charging is possible with up to 50 watts within 53 minutes. In mainland China, the Mi 11 will be offered without charger as standard, but a version with a power supply in a bundle should be available for the same price.

Mi 11 is powered with MIUI 12.5, which is based on Android 10. The operating system should require 20 percent less memory for everyday tasks and occupy 32 percent less memory with system services.

The smartphone itself comes on the market in the colors Midnight Gray, Horizon Blue, and Frost White, each with a glass back, and the colors Lilac Purple and Honey Beige in “vegan leather.”
