Its here, Google’s second edition of Pixel smartphones — Pixel 2 — a phone with best hardware, software and smarter AI.
In the big hardware show on 4th Oct 2017, Google announced its new Pixel 2 smartphone. Pixel 2 comes in two variant — one with 5 inch display and other one with 6 inch — named Pixel 2 XL. Both phones having same features and specification with some substantial design changes.
Pixel 2 designs looks similar to first generation with 5 inch screen where Pixel 2 XL made a major improvement by jumping from a 5.5-inch display up to a 6-inch display — almost covers entire face of the phone.
Here are the specifications of Google’s 2017 flagship smartphone :
Both Pixel 2 smartphones are powered with Snapdragon 835 processors and 4GB RAM. They each possess OLED displays where 5 inch screen smartphone has a 1080p resolution (for a density of 441 PPI) and XL edition has a 2880 x 1440 resolution (for an even denser 538 PPI). Both the displays are protected by 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Speaking about battery, Pixel 2 has a 2700mAh battery, while the Pixel 2 XL has a 3520mAh battery, both features super fast charging. The device is also water resistant and comes with specifically calibrated for Augmented Reality (AR). Pixel 2 smartphones also support Bluetooth 5.0 and secured with improved fingerprint sensor —which Google claims faster unlocking capability than any other phone. The handsets come in 64GB and 128GB storage variants.
Like its predecessor, Google Pixel 2 is mainly focusing on photography. But no dual camera this time, instead equipped with single camera accompanied by machine learning promises to shoot better images than dual camera phones. According to Google, DxOMark has given the new camera on Pixel 2 a score of 98. Both Pixel 2 and XL comes with 12.2-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture with optical and electronic image stabilization. The front-facing 8-megapixel camera has an aperture of f/2.4. Google is also adding its own version of the iPhone’s Live Photos, here called Motion Photos — which takes 3 secs of video behind the screen.
Apart from all these features, Google Assistant makes the Pixel 2 phones lot more smarter with its improvement in AI and accuracy in voice recognition. In second generation Pixel phones, Google Assistant became more easier to control. A feature called “Active Edge” which enables Google Assistant anytime to trigger some tasks by simply squeezing the sides of your smartphone.
For Pixel 2 users Google also provides free unlimited storage of their photos and videos in original quality, forever, on Google Photos. yes, this includes 4K videos too.
Now about pricing and availability. Pixel 2 will come in 3 colors — white, black, and “kinda blue”. And priced $649 for 64GB of storage and $749 for 128GB. Where Pixel 2 XL comes in just two colors — black and white with a black glass shade on the back. It’ll start at $849 for 64GB and go up to $949 for 128GB.
