Microsoft Presents The Surface Laptop 4: Now Offers Choice Between Intel and AMD

The new Surface Laptop 4 has been officially announced by Microsoft. The 4th generation of the Surface Laptop offers the users to choose between the processors from Intel and AMD.

At first glance, Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 looks like previous Surface Laptops, keeping the screen in a 3:2 aspect ratio, making it taller than usual and better suited for work and for reading documents or web pages. The displays, with touch technology, will be available in sizes 13.5 and 15 inches and will have a pixel density of 201 PPI.

Also, Microsoft has not compromised in the quality of the materials used. This is a high-end laptop, and the use of Alcantara and metal finishes will prove it. For this generation, Microsoft will release a new finish called “Ice Blue”, in addition to the rest of the colors already available.

Technically, the biggest novelty is that Redmond has decided to equip Surface Laptop 4 with two lines of processors — the 11th generation Intel Core and the AMD Ryzen 4000 series with integrated Radeon graphics.

However, Microsoft promises that it does not matter what we choose because the experience will be just as smooth in multitasking and when we need power. That’s because Microsoft has teamed up with both Intel and AMD to get custom processors just for the Surface 4. In fact, the AMDs are called Ryzen 4000 Surface Edition to make this clear.

Another technical novelty is the Dolby Atmos Omnisonic speakers, with which Microsoft promises a “cinematic experience.”

The technical data has hardly changed apart from the processors, except that all models now offer Wi-Fi 6 and the battery life is significantly longer, although the battery capacity has not changed. The still 45.8 Wh energy storage should now be 19 hours (13.5 “with AMD), 17 hours (13.5” with Intel), 17.5 hours (15 “with AMD), and 16.5 hours (15” with Intel). Previously, this figure was 11.5 hours regardless of the display size and processor.

The most affordable model will be the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 4 with an AMD Ryzen 5 4680U processor, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. Its price will be $999 or 1,129 euros. All models can now be ordered online and will be available from April 14 in the United States, Canada, and Japan.
