We all know, Edward Snowden who always fight against government’s policy about spying their citizens. So this time Snowden comes up with a new gadget concept to keep us safe from spying eyes.

On Thursday, Snowden and hacker Andrew Huang presented a possible solution – MIT Media Lab, with Snowden speaking on video from Russia – that could prevent the government from finding your location.  Tracking a person’s location is quiet easy for government because now everyone have smartphones with GPS and according to Snowden – ” smartphones are the perfect tracking device”.

Governments can monitor a user’s location through the radio signals from the phone and this can put journalists, activists, and rights workers in danger, he warned.

So Snowden and fellow hacker Huang comes up with a gadget concept called the introspection engine,” and it’s designed to alert the user if and when the phone’s radio signals are turned on.

Yes smartphones generally come with an airplane mode that can turn off a phone’s cellular and Wi-Fi connections. But even that can be misleading, Snowden warned. The GPS, for instance, will still remain active on some handsets, like the iPhone. In the worst-case scenario, malware could also infect the handset to secretly send radio transmissions, he added.

How Snowden’s Device Keep Us Safe from Spying Eyes

Snowden’s solution is designed to detect any errant phone signals when the handset is switched into airplane mode. His concept functions like a battery case that can attach to an iPhone, but it also wires into the handset’s SIM card slot. A small computer in the case will then detect the handset’s radio transmissions.

Any unusual activity can trigger an alarm. A small display embedded on the case can also show updates. To guarantee that no signals are sent out, the case could also built with a “kill switch” that disconnects power to the phone.

Snowden said that he designed the technology to help protect reporters working in dangerous situations.

“Unfortunately, journalists can be betrayed by their own tools,” he added. That may have happened in 2012, when U.S. reporter Marie Colvin was killed while covering the Syrian civil war. A lawsuit alleges that the Syrian government assassinated her by tracking Colvin’s satellite phone communications to find her location.

Snowden’s introspection engine, however, is still just a concept. He hopes to develop a prototype over the coming year. The technology will be open source and is meant to easily be applied to other phone models.

What is Data Security ? Why is it so important?

ssl-cloud-big-data-security1

There is one thing that makes us so vulnerable is ignorance. Today, everything is going to have depended on the internet. We share most of our information on the internet without taking care of it. Most of the information can be shared publicly but not all information like your personal life details, Credit card details, Bank details, etc. To secure the information and the data, We should have a better understanding of Data security.

What is Data Security?

Data security is the practice of keeping your data protected from being corrupt and unauthorised access. Whether you are using Facebook to chat with your friends, watching YouTube videos, or doing any important online work you must be aware of data security.

There are two serious problems in the field of data security: the amount of information that you store or transfer, and the ease with which this information can you withdraw. Many of us keep all data (contacts, correspondence, and documents) on laptops and even mobile phones, including the confidential information of tens, hundreds or even thousands of people. Not too difficult to steal phone (laptop) or quickly copy content.

By using encryption, you can not only increase the level of Data security but also complicate access to classified information to those who are physically able to get to it. In a computer or mobile phone, it is easy to lock a password, PIN-code or protection by means of a gesture. Alas, the lock will not help protect data in the loss of the device. Such a lock is easy to get around because the data is stored on the device in a readable form. All you need to do an attack – to connect to the storage medium directly. Then he will be able to view and copy the data without knowing the password.

If you use encryption, an attacker will have not enough information to access the device. To decrypt the data it will need your password. To bypass this protection is not possible.

The best way – not to encrypt individual folders and all data. Most computers and smartphones support a full encryption. In Android, you will find this option in the section “Security”, in Apple devices (eg, iPhone, iPad), it is called the “Data Protection” and it automatically turns ON when you activate the lock short password. On computers that are running Windows Pro, there is BitLocker application for encryption .

Whatever application you use, reliable encryption as much reliable your password. If the device falls into the wrong hands, it will have plenty of time for password guessing. The forensic software allows selecting passwords at speeds of millions of operations per second. Four-digit PIN-code for a while to protect your data. Even a longer password will not be able to restrain the attack for a long time. A really secure password should contain more than fifteen characters.

Most of us do not like the idea to remember and enter the passphrase on your phone or another mobile device. Thus, encryption is able to reliably protect data from accidental access only. For a truly confidential information, it should ensure the physical safety and inaccessible to intruders. You can limit the work with such data on one computer is more secure than others.

In Google Chrome – How do you go into private browsing?

I think everyone knows the answer :

If you don’t want Google Chrome to save a record of what you visit and download, you can always surf the web in incognito mode.

And what happens if you forget to lock the door while you are surfing “private stuffs” in web and your loved ones or any other uninvited guests burst into the room without warning . Yeah, an embarrassing situation.

So how it will be if your door automatically locks itself whenever you open browser incognito mode…pretty good..ha…… That’s exactly what Mike, CEO of the Useless Duck Company designed.

Arduino-powered door lock

YouTuber Mike created Arduino-powered door that automatically locks itself whenever you open a private browser or activate browser incognito mode.

Yesterday, the company unveiled their first ever video game, VR Funhouse, alongside their unique and powerful screenshotting tool called Ansel.

The game is available for free via Valve’s Steam distribution platform for entertainment titles but is only playable on the $799 HTC Vive VR system. Vive itself is awesome if you can deal with the challenging setup, and devote a decent amount of physical space, free of obstacles, for what’s known as room-scale VR. Nvidia is opening up the source code inside VR Funhouse to developers.

VR Funhouse – Built using Unreal Engine 4 and demonstrates a number of VRWorks and GameWorks technologies, including FleX particle-based simulations, Nvidia Flow fluid simulations, HairWorks, PhysX, and Multi-Res Shading.

Playing VR Funhouse will require an immensely powerful gaming rig. To run the game just on ‘low’ settings, you’ll need to have a GeForce GTX 1060, 1070, 980 Ti, or Titan X in your system. If you have a GTX 1080, you can play at medium quality, while high quality requires a single GTX 1080 or two GTX 1070s, Titan Xs, or 980 TIs in SLI. On top of that, GPU PhysX effects require a dedicated GTX 980 Ti or greater.

People who need a computer normally go to a store and buy one from anywhere between $500 and $3,000. But there are some geeks who like to built their own computer. Today we are going to meet a huge home built computer, sadly which only enough power to play Tetris.

James Newman from Cambridge, UK, started building “Megaprocessor” – a huge home built computer, in 2012. And he spent £40,000 ($53,000) to finish this 33ft (10m) wide and 6ft (2m) high computer. It contains 40,000 transistors, 10,000 LED lights and it weighs around half a tonne (500kg).

Because of its size now you think, it could be a supercomputer but sadly its not.

Megaprocessor does the job of a chip-sized microprocessor, because it’s a 16-bit machine that only has 256 Bytes of RAM (which, however small that number seems, takes up around 10 square feet of space) and a 20kHz-clocked processor. So far, he has used it to play the classic video game Tetris.

Mr Newman, a digital electronics engineer, started the project because he was learning about transistors and wanted to visualize how a microprocessor worked. Checkout his diary of the build progress.

In his website he said : “Computers are quite opaque, looking at them it’s impossible to see how they work. What I would like to do is get inside and see what’s going on. Trouble is we can’t shrink down small enough to walk inside a silicon chip. But we can go the other way; we can build the thing big enough that we can walk inside it. Not only that we can also put LEDs on everything so we can actually SEE the data moving and the logic happening. It’s going to be great.”

Mr Newman hopes the Megaprocessor will be used as an educational tool and is planning a series of open days at his home over the summer. “My dream is that it goes to a museum or educational institute so that people can learn from it,” he told the BBC.

Check out an overview of what the Megaprocessor consists of and what it can do in the video, below.

Ubuntu will soon end support to 32-bit PCs

Ubuntu will soon end support to 32-bit PCs
Ubuntu will soon end support to 32-bit PCs

Bad news for those who are still using 32-bit processors :

Ubuntu along with other Linux distributions are planning to end support to 32-bit PCs.

Since 64-bit CPUs were first released more than a decade ago, many people are still using 32-bit CPUs – the decision is going to affect them. So if you want to run a Linux distro with full power in future : you have to switch to 64-it processor..

Linux distribution soon end support to 32-bit PCs

Ubuntu is the latest operating system planning to end support to 32-bit processors. Ubuntu’s Dimitri John Ledkov put forth a proposal to wind down 32-bit support on the Ubuntu mailing list recently.

He reports that hardware that can’t run 64-bit software is becoming much less common, while creating 32-bit images, testing them, and supporting them takes time and effort.
Ledkov also points out that Ubuntu wants to limit the number of new 32-bit installations, with Ubuntu 16.10. This next release will not offer a 32-bit Ubuntu Desktop or Ubuntu Server image. The software could still be installed for legacy compatibility purposes via more traditional installers. By Ubuntu 18.10 in October 2018, Ubuntu would completely end support for 32-bit software and encourage running it in a virtual machine or container instead.

Fedora has made a similar choice. Fedora Server no longer offers a 32-bit image as of Fedora 24.

OpenSUSE Leap hasn’t even offered 32-bit images since its inception. OpenSUSE Chairman Richard Brown explained on Reddit that it wasn’t worth supporting 32-bit for another three years after the release because downloads of 32-bit releases have steadily declined.

Yes, 32-Bit Linux distributions will still exist

Don’t worry,  32-bit Linux distributions will continue to exist for a long time. Because the recently released Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be supported for five years until 2021. Even after many of the big Linux distributions stop releasing new versions for 32-bit hardware, there will be Linux distributions out there specializing in support for this older hardware. But, by then, more 32-bit hardware will be out of commission.
