Hackers Compromised LastPass Developer Account And Stole Source Code

Hackers Compromised LastPass

LastPass, one of the popular password managers — used by more than 33 million people worldwide — said hackers recently stole source code and sensitive information after hacking into its systems.

The CEO of LastPass, Karim Toubba, has confirmed the news in a statement sent to its users. According to this, the attackers penetrated internal systems through a compromised account of one of the developers “and took portions of source code and some proprietary LastPass technical information.”

The good part is that it says that, after conducting an investigation, the company emphasizes that there is no evidence of theft of encrypted passwords or any other information of users of the password manager.

According to the official announcement, “In response to the incident, we have deployed containment and mitigation measures, and engaged a leading cybersecurity and forensics firm. While our investigation is ongoing, we have achieved a state of containment, implemented additional enhanced security measures, and see no further evidence of unauthorized activity.”

As for users and administrators, LastPass recommends not doing anything beyond following the best practices since always. But since no user information or passwords have been stolen, they indicate that no extra step is necessary.

The developers noted that the neural network works with the RAW photo format and is able to restore the colors and details of the entire scene more accurately.

Just a week after the release of the final version of Android 13, the hackers have already learned how to bypass the operating system’s new security restrictions.

According to ThreatFabric, several viruses have already been discovered that are designed to bypass the additional security measures introduced by Google. These malware are ways to ignore the ban on the use of the Accessibility Service system by ordinary applications, which was positioned as the main feature of Android 13.

Accessibility Services, as its name suggests, is an Android tool designed so that users with certain disabilities can interact with the phone. By activating this permission, the app can see, interact and collect all the data on the screen. In other words, the hacker can have full control over the phone since the original purpose is that the app can perform basic tasks that the user cannot perform.

Although with Android 13, Google imposes some limitations on Accessibility Services to partially solve the security problem. The Android 13 system now detects if an app has been installed from an app store or from outside of it. If it has been installed from outside, Android 13 prevents downloaded apps from requesting access to Accessibility Services.

Meanwhile, hackers from the “Hadoken Security” group have already created a couple of viruses that bypass protection — one of them behaves “quietly” and does not arouse suspicion.

However, it downloads a second virus that requests access to the Accessibility Service. If the user does not attach any importance to this and grants permission, then his smartphone will turn into a tool for surveillance.

Experts noted that at this stage, the detected malware has many errors in the code, which does not correspond to the level of the Hadoken Security group that was detected in the past. This means that the malware is under development, and the hackers are testing it to optimize the code.

Sony Confirms PlayStation VR2 Debuting In Early 2023

The Sony PlayStation VR2 virtual reality glasses for the PlayStation 5 that were announced at the beginning of the year will not be launched until next year, as the manufacturer has now officially announced via its Japanese PlayStation account on Twitter.

Sony has already announced that the virtual reality viewer will be accompanied by about twenty major titles at its debut. Among them are games in the Horizon franchise and Walking Dead universes, as well as VR versions of No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village.

The headset will only be compatible with the PlayStation 5 console. The price of the PlayStation VR2 has not yet been announced.
