China Prohibits Minors From Playing Online Games More Than 3 Hours A Week

Chinese gaming and gamers news

China has established a new regulation that limits the playing time of online games among the country’s youth. Specifically, it prohibits those under the age of 18 from playing online games for more than 3 hours a week.

As reported by The Guardian, the new regulation that, according to the country, is necessary to eliminate what they consider to be an addiction to online video games among their young people. Although, the Chinese holidays are an exception, on which users can play for an additional hour.

According to state news agency Xinhua, “All online game companies can only provide minors with 1 hour of service from 20 to 21:00 every day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays. At other times, it is not allowed to provide online game services to minors in any form.

The restriction will apply to all devices that can run a video game, including smartphones, which will deal a serious blow to the video game industry that is heavily dependent on China.

The responsibility for compliance with these standards will not fall on the parents of minors in China but will be on the developer companies, which must create strict control mechanisms to ensure that these measures are met.

To confirm that the ban is effective, the Chinese government indicated that it would “increase the frequency and intensity of inspections” of firms that offer access to this type of entertainment.

Tencent already implemented a system called Midnight Patrol, that uses facial recognition built into many smartphones to control the game addiction among underaged gamers.

iPhone 13 Would Support Satellite Communication To Make Calls And Send Text When There Is No Coverage

iPhone stories and news

Apple prepares the launch of the iPhone 13 for the month of September, and the next-gen iPhone could open up to significant innovation in communications via satellite support.

According to the latest rumours, highlighted by the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple intends to insert LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites connectivity to allow communications even without 4G or 5G.

Kuo explains how the future lineup of the iPhone 13 will boast hardware capable of communicating with LEO satellites. Thanks to new software implementations with iOS 15, this change could allow iPhone users to make calls and send messages without the need for 4G or 5G cellular networks.

According to Kuo, iPhone 13 would take advantage of a completely revised and customized version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 baseband chip to support satellite communications.

In Android, the chip is known from the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 888 Plus, where it is integrated directly into the SoC. Apple’s own A processors have always been independent and connected the modem via an external chip.

Apple would be the first company to propose this possibility of communication, given that other companies are awaiting the arrival of Qualcomm’s X65 chip which will only allow communications via satellites in 2022.

According to the latest rumours, Apple’s next iPhone event will take place in the second half of September. The same design as before, but with a slightly smaller Face ID notch is expected for the iPhone 13. It also suppose to feature a 120 Hz display with always-on function, the A15 processor, new cameras and larger batteries.

Top 10 Things to Know Before Buying a New iPhone

Get More Space on iPhone

It doesn’t matter if it’s the first time or the latest of many, purchasing a new model gives us immense excitement every time. The iPhone as we all know is one of the most expensive gadgets to own. And once we get one in our hands, it becomes our precious property. So, before acquiring this precious constant companion, make sure to go through some important factors listed below to consider the one that will define your personal style statement.

1. Augmented Reality

To the first time iPhone user, this feature is really impressive. The owner can experience immersive gameplay with the latest models starting from iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and the iPhone X as these models come along with an AR kit. It also offers another level of photography as well as style. You can find some special setups in the latest versions, such as transforming your image into your emoji version by using the snap chat filter through face mapping.

2. Camera

If camera quality is more important for you, having an iPhone X or iPhone 8 plus can be a good choice. You will find a second telephoto lens in both of these devices, which provides you with a better zoom and DSLR camera-portrait-like quality. You will also find it mimicking different kinds of studio lighting and ambiance. If you like to take selfies, you will love it even more as it comes with the same portrait mode for the front and back cameras.

3. Face ID

The new security feature of the iPhone is face ID. In iPhone X, you will find no touch ID which makes it more secure in unlocking the phone and authenticating payments, though iPhone 8, and 8 plus still have the option for finger scanner on the home button.

4. Home Button

Only the iPhone X model doesn’t have a home button among all iPhones released so far. On their 10th anniversary, Apple removed this feature from their model. So, now it’s time for the users to learn a new way of operating their iPhones. But, if you are attached to the physical home button, it will be better for you to go with the 8 or 8 plus model.

5. Storage

iPhone does not allow you to add storage on a microSD card, while in most Android phones you can do it. So, you need to make sure you are getting enough capacity built-in when buying your iPhone. You can find the latest models starting at 64 GB. It might be enough if you do not store a huge number of albums or movies on your phone.

6. Screen

The latest iPhones come with ambient lighting for the warmth adjusted by Apple’s True Tone technology. Like their predecessors, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus have HD retina displays, whereas iPhone X comes with a Super Retina display offering more pixels per inch. iPhone X is the first model to use OLED and HDR technology, producing richer colors, deeper blacks, and more life-like images. The only thing you might not like is putting up with the rounded edges and black notch while watching videos.

7. Size

When the price is not your primary concern, size is the first thing you need to consider. If you want to buy the iPhone 8 Plus for its 5.5-inch screen, remember it’s bulkier, too. When comfort is your first priority, the iPhone 8 that comes with a 4.7-inch screen can be a better choice. You might also like the iPhone X, as it is in between the two in terms of weight and size.

8. Price

iPhones are not made to sell at a cheap price. The cheapest iPhone X starts at $999, the iPhone 8 plus at $799, and the iPhone 8 at $688. That’s without extra storage, AppleCare, and tax. So, when you are looking for the cheaper one, ruling out the X from the get-go will be a wise decision. Or, you might consider the Apple Upgrade Program that will let you pay off the phone in 24-month as well as upgrade it to the latest model when half of the payment has been made

9. Buying the SIM-Free One

If you are not bound to a network contract with an upgrade, purchasing your iPhone outright will be the right thing to do. When you are looking at any contract, know that you might find the same carrier offering a similar SIM-only plan that is cheaper than purchasing your iPhone from Apple almost every time a new model is released. It will help you add a pay monthly contract too. You can also pay as you go if you want.

10. The Best Time to Buy

The ideal time to purchase a new iPhone is just after the announcement of a new version made by Apple. It might not be a good idea with other tech products, as they may offer better bargains after the launch day. Compared to those techs, the iPhone barely varies in price. No matter which iPhone you are buying, you will get a good offer. So, buying early can be a good idea when you are determined to buy one.

Buying anything new is always exciting. But before that, you always need to check out the different advantages and features offered by them. You also need to look into the facts that might change or establish your decision so that you don’t have to regret your choice later. Like every other device, while purchasing a new iPhone, make sure to check out the points mentioned above and get the companion that suits you better.

Users Will Be Able To Bypass The Recommended Hardware Requirements By Manually Installing Windows 11

Windows 11 is official

Microsoft has revised the minimum requirements for Windows 11. The Redmond company will allow the next-gen Windows to run on computers without TPM 2.0 and recent processors — if the user installs it manually using an ISO.

The only thing is, users will, however, at their own risk, as Microsoft would not guarantee driver compatibility in this case. According to Microsoft, official hardware requirements are the only ones that can guarantee overall system reliability.

Microsoft says it will continue to enforce the recommended requirements for those who want to upgrade to Windows 11 through Windows Update. In this way, Microsoft is attempting to push for more modern drivers and increased security and will continue to deny the update to those who fail the hardware test.

Thanks to this new manual installation of the Windows 11 ISO method, millions of users will not be forced to choose between renewing their PCs or staying using Windows 10. Because you only need to have a 1 GHz 64-bit processor with two or more cores, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

iOS Developers Are Allowed To Provide Information About Alternative Payment Methods

Apple news and stories and more

Apple has announced a series of changes related to the App Store. The most significant change is that iOS developers can now inform their users about the existence of other payment methods other than the default one provided by Apple on the App Store.

Thus, developers will be able to avoid the commission of 15% or 30% that Apple imposes for the use of its payment system. Until June 2021, developers were not allowed to point out alternative payment options to their customers at all.

This is the result of an out-of-court settlement reached by Apple and developers on a class-action lawsuit regarding the payment modalities in the App Store.

Apple specifies the guidelines to the effect that iOS developers may, with users’ permission, can use the data collected in their apps to inform users about payment options outside the App Store. If a user has stored their email address in the app, the developer can use this to inform them about other payment options in the future. However, users must explicitly consent to this type of contact and can revoke it at any time. Offering additional payment options within the app is still prohibited.

According to The Verge, the deal also includes Apple paying developers a total of $100 million via “Small Developer Assistance Fund” — which will be split among small developers who earned $1 million or less “for all of their apps in every calendar year in which the developers had an account between June 4, 2015, and April 26, 2021.”

Apple will also publish a transparency report on the App Store. The current search system in the App Store is to be retained for at least three years. Developers can also still object to an app being rejected. Apple has agreed to create a website that explains the app rating process. The agreement has yet to be confirmed by a judge.

How to Safely Shop for Gifts Online

Safely Shop Online

Whilst most shopping sites are secure, offer a wide range of goods with fast shipping and an easy returns policy, there are a minority that have hit the headlines for criminal behaviour. These rogue sites scam shoppers by not delivering the goods purchased or take personal information given with the order to empty the buyer’s bank account. Whilst this sounds alarming, there are some easy guidelines to follow to stay safe.

Shopping online has proven to be safe for the majority and scams are rare. Not only are there bargains to be found, but individuals use online retailers for research, such as looking for unique 50th anniversary gift ideas for those who may be difficult to buy for. Follow these simple rules to keep your online shopping safe so you can continue to enjoy all the benefits it offers.

Use familiar websites

Use a trusted website. Search results for well-known retailers to reduce the risk of being ripped off. Double-check the spellings for accuracy. If there are typos in the address or an added hyphen, period or another symbol that should not be there, search again. Also, retailers should use “.com” in their website address, so avoid domains that use “.net”. The .net domain is the recommended alternative to .com when the .com is already in use and was originally meant to be used by umbrella websites acting as a portal for smaller sites.

SSL encryption as standard

All online shops should have SSL (secure sockets layer) encryption. Make sure the URL for the site starts with HTTPS (not just HTTP) which is confirmed by an icon of a locked padlock to the left of the URL in the address bar.

Share minimal personal data

Do not share your Social Security number or your birth date with anyone online that has your bank account details. The more personal information you share online, the more likely it is that your identity will be stolen. Online sites are hacked all the time so be careful with the information you leave when shopping.

Check seller reviews

If you are wary of a site, check retailer reviews before releasing your credit card details. Whilst some online review sites can be filled with paid reviews, if you see nothing by positive feedback and the writers are not verified as customers, trust your instincts.

Update antivirus programmes

Protect your computer from the malware that online shopping sites can put on your computer to collect more information about you. Make sure your antivirus software can fight spam as well as phishing emails and phishing attacks from websites that look like legitimate messages but are not. Also, make sure these are always up to date to protect against new threats.

Do not shop in public

When using a public network when out and about, there is a risk others will see your activity. Do not input credit card details with the expiration date and three-digit code on the back into a site while in a café or somewhere others can see your screen or see you typing. Use sites that you trust that already have your credit card stored or better still, save the item and make the purchase from home.

Use mobile apps

Rather than using a shop’s website, use the app provided directly by the retailer to make your purchase. For even more security, use your smartphone’s mobile payment app like Apple Pay which generates a one-time-use authentication code for the purchase that no one else could ever steal and use and keeps you safe from card skimmers. Google Pay and others will allow instant payment once a fingerprint, face, or passcode is confirmed.

Do not pay with a debit card

Do not pay for your online shop with a debit card. If hackers get your debit card details they have direct access to your bank account. This is why credit card payments are preferable. If a shop requests funds are wired, this is a red flag. There are also protections with credit card payments that do not apply to debit cards. If there are issues with payments on your credit card notify the bank as soon as possible.

4 Correctional Technology Trends to Watch Out for in the Next Coming Years

inmate tracking security

Technology plays a major role in keeping prisons safe and efficient. It can create a safer environment both for inmates and personnel. It can also be used to prevent escapes and monitor people within the facility. While prisons have been traditionally very slow to adapt to new technology, they can’t afford to lag behind. They now have a whole new set of challenges to face, and technology could be the only way to surmount them. Let’s take a look at some of the trends that could reshape the future of prisons in the next coming years.

Better Tracking Technology

RFID technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated and plays an essential role in controlling the inmate population. Facilities can now follow movement not only within the facility but outside its limits as well. Inmates can be followed during things like court transports or work release programs all through a simple-to-use inmate tracking system. These systems can also help give quick information on what an inmate is doing at any given time.

Trackers can be installed close to communal areas to monitor the flow of people at all times. This makes it easier for officers to identify when there’s unusual activity and also know exactly who was involved in incidents. It also makes it easier to know when an inmate is or was in a restricted area.

Security as a Service

Prisons around the country are overpopulated, and there are many staffing issues as well. This has pushed facilities to use third parties to take over some operations, and security is one of them. Software as a service is a subscription model where facilities allow security providers to take over certain surveillance functions. They leverage the power of the cloud and staff on-demand to provide a set of comprehensive benefits to facilities. Facilities can even make short-term savings by reducing the amount of money they have to spend on staff, training, and products.

More Emphasis on Cyber Security

Prisons are more interconnected than ever, which comes with both advantages and disadvantages. Security is more integrated, but more systems are controlled by distance and over a live network, which means that they are vulnerable to attacks. There have been stories of inmates exploiting network vulnerabilities to disrupt facilities, and there will be many more. Hacking can also be used to temporarily shut down surveillance and tracking systems. This is why correctional facilities around the country are spending more money on IT security and educating their workforce.

Technology to Reduce the Inmate Population

Like we mentioned earlier, overpopulation is a huge problem for prisons, and technology could be used to reduce it. This is also where tracking technology can help. As systems become better, more inmates will be able to serve their sentences in the community. There are even talks of virtual prisons where tracking technology will be used to not only monitor movement but restrict it to a physical location. This could completely transform how corrections are approached and reduce the financial burden the correctional system puts on public finances.

Technology will play an important role in the work of corrections in the next few years and could help it solve some of its most pressing issues. It could also be used to make the lives of inmates better, and even aid in their rehabilitation.

Netflix Announced Integration Of Two ‘Stranger Things’ Games In Its App

Netflix Stranger Things Games

Last time we heard, Netflix plan to launch its first video games on smartphones and tablets by 2022, but its look like the streaming service announced its first venture into the sector with one of its most popular series — Stranger Things.

The company will start testing games in its Android applications. Starting today, Netflix users can access two titles, Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3. Although they are available only in Poland, in the coming months, it will expand to other markets and also to iOS.

Netflix writes on Twitter that the offer is still in a “very, very early” stage and “we’ve got a lot of work to do in the months ahead, but this is the first step.”

Video games will have their own row on the main screen of the Android application, along with the other proposals in the Netflix catalog. In the games section, the available titles will appear. And one click on respective title takes subscribers to the Google Play Store, where they can dowload the game. Once this step is completed, they can be played from the Netflix app.

An important point to note is that, although they are downloaded and installed on a smartphone or tablet, the games cannot be played outside of the Netflix application.

On the other hand, the platform indicated that Stranger Things games (and those that follow) will not include ads or in-app purchases. They will not have an extra cost either since they will be included in the Netflix subscription.
