Cybersecurity Tactics Every Business Needs to Know

Encryption Is The Most Overlooked Cybersecurity Practice

Before the advent of the internet, as we know it today, businesses had to worry about physical security threats like theft and vandalism. However, now that most business is conducted online, they must contend with many new cyber-threats. In this post, we’ll discuss the most effective cybersecurity tactics every business must know to prepare and protect their organization. We’ll also discuss how industry leaders can learn more in cybersecurity and information technology courses.

Familiar Cybersecurity Threats Businesses Face

First, it’s essential to understand some specific cyber-threats businesses face today.

These threats can come from a variety of sources, but they all have the potential to do serious harm to your business if you’re not prepared.

  • Ransomware is one of the most common and dangerous types of cyberattacks. This is where hackers gain access to your systems and then demand payment for not releasing sensitive information or causing damage. These attacks can be extremely costly in terms of the ransom itself. Not to mention the injuries the release of sensitive data may cause.
  • Another common threat is phishing emails. These emails look as if they are from a legitimate source but are sent by hackers in an attempt to gain access to your systems. They may try to trick you into clicking on a malicious link or attachment or releasing sensitive information like passwords or credit card numbers.
  • Hackers can also gain access to your systems through software vulnerabilities. This is why it is so helpful to keep your software up-to-date, as hackers will often target old versions that are no longer supported with security patches.
  • Finally, businesses need to be aware of the threat of insider attacks. This is where an employee – intentionally or unintentionally – gives hackers access to your systems. They may do this by downloading malware from the internet, clicking on a phishing email, or simply using weak passwords.

Cybersecurity Tactics Every Business Needs to Know

Now that we’ve covered some of the common cyber-threats businesses face, let’s take a look at some of the most effective cybersecurity tactics you can use to protect your organization.

Create a firm cybersecurity policy

The first and most crucial step is to create a robust cybersecurity policy. This policy should outline what activities are allowed on your network and what steps employees need to take to keep it secure. It may include the use of tools like decentralized identity management, which let people control and manage their personal information via an identity framework.

Here’s a handy list of essential components of a cybersecurity policy you can refer to:

  • Define what types of activity are allowed on your network, including a list of approved software and websites.
  • Rules for password use, including requirements for length, complexity, and how often to update them.
  • An explanation of how employees can keep the network secure and educating them on cybersecurity risks and how they can protect themselves.
  • Include detailed procedures for reporting suspicious activity and responding to incidents. For example, you may want to create a dedicated email address or phone number for employees to report suspected attacks.
  • Information about your policy should be easily accessible to all employees. It should also be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure it remains relevant.

Invest in cyber insurance

Another critical step is to invest in cyber insurance. This type of insurance can help cover the costs of an attack, including damages, legal fees, and ransom payments. It’s essential to make sure you’re adequately covered. Many traditional business insurance policies don’t cover cyberattacks, so getting specific coverage for your business is necessary.

Make sure all your software is up to date

As we mentioned, software vulnerabilities are the most common ways hackers gain access to systems. So, keep all your software up-to-date, including your operating system, security patches, and applications.

You should also consider using a whitelist approach to security, allowing only approved software installed on your systems. This can help to prevent employees from accidentally downloading malware or other malicious content.

Educate your employees

Another vital step in protecting your business is to educate your employees about cybersecurity threats and how they can stay safe online. They should be aware of the signs of a phishing email, for example, and know what to do if they receive one.

You should also provide them with strong passwords and instructions on keeping them safe. Employees should understand that their passwords are the first line of defense against hackers, so they must take steps to keep them secure.

Invest in a cybersecurity solution

Finally, investing in a cybersecurity solution that can protect your systems from attacks is essential. This could include a firewall, intrusion detection system, or anti-malware software.

Make sure you choose a solution tailored to your business’s needs that offers comprehensive protection against the latest threats.

Industry Leaders Can Benefit From Cybersecurity and Information Technology Courses

Samsung Gaming Hub: Play Xbox, Stadia, GeForce Now And Other Cloud Services From Your Smart TV

Samsung Gaming Hub

Samsung has introduced a cloud gaming service Gaming Hub for its smart TVs. The service will provide access to the Xbox xCloud, Nvidia GeForce Now, Google Stadia and Amazon Luna. It also integrates with Twitch.

The program will initially be made available for all current smart TVs that Samsung is selling in 2022 — including the Neo QLED 8k, Neo QLED 4K and others.

While computing power for games is obtained directly from the cloud, the SoC integrated with the TV takes care of signal processing and signal input from connected devices. Various image filters and upscaling algorithms based on AI are intended to improve the incoming image. Ultimately, however, this also depends on a stable and fast internet connection.

At the time of publication, the platform is only available in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and South Korea.

If you have one of the smart TVs that Samsung has launched this year and the new ‘Gaming Hub’ repository does not appear in the Tizen OS interface, you will have to update its firmware. You just have to go to Settings >> All settings >> Support >> Software update.

The integration of these services in smart TVs is the first step to a future where a console will not be necessary to play. Last year Microsoft announced that it would work closely with TV manufacturers to integrate the xCloud on these smart TVs, through a dedicated application that only requires a subscription to Game Pass. It remains to be seen if there are agreements with other manufacturers or if it decides to launch a “Chromecast” to play in the cloud on any TV.

Windows Defender Significantly Reduces The Performance Of Intel Processors In Windows 10 Or 11

Microsoft Windows Defender news and stories

Windows Defender, built-in security solution of the Windows operating system, slows down PCs based on 8th and 11th generation Intel processors.

The problem was discovered by Kevin Glynn, associate software author behind popular utilities such as ThrottleStop and RealTemp. While working on ThrottleStop, he noticed that the Windows Defender antivirus reduces the performance of Intel processors by 6% in Windows 10 or 11.

The bug has affected 8th and 11th generation Intel chips, but, most likely, it applies to all processors from 2007. In particular, Glyn noticed a decrease in the speed of work with his Intel Core i9-10850K processor, where Windows Defender used all the Intel Core hardware performance counters, although antiviruses usually do not use so many resources.

The developer concluded that the problem is solely caused by Windows Defender and therefore is not a fault of the Intel chips. Glynn reported the issue to Microsoft — the engineering team is expected to release a fix soon.

As a temporary measure, the specialist created the Counter Control utility, which resets the performance counters. Recently Microsoft Defender antivirus was released on iOS and macOS.
