Microsoft And Meta To Link The Teams And Workplace Apps With One Another

Workplace from Meta and Microsoft Teams

Microsoft and Meta, formerly known as Facebook, have announced a partnership. The companies want to bring the two products Microsoft Teams and Meta Workplace closer together.

The integration will bring Teams video conferencing to Workplace users and bring content from Workplace to the Teams app. The partnership with Microsoft marks Meta’s first major deal since Facebook’s rebranding.

Microsoft and Meta are competitors in the enterprise communications software market. The functionality of the integrated services does not overlap each other in terms of capabilities. Teams is designed for immediate communication between an employee and colleagues, while Workplace is designed for broad, corporate communication.

Workplace chief Ujwal Singh said that companies such as Accenture and Vodafone have requested integration. In this way, Workplace customers will enjoy additional features rather than competing features.

According to CNBC, cooperation will be more profitable for Meta since Workplace is seriously lagging behind competitors in terms of the number of users — in May, there were 7 million, Microsoft had 250 million active subscribers in June.

In early November, Microsoft introduced Mesh for Teams, which will allow you to work and hold meetings in mixed reality. The company promises to begin rolling out the new solution to the enterprise platform in the first half of 2022.

Who Benefits From an Online Degree?

Essential Knowledge on the Benefits of Online Degrees

As more colleges offer online degrees, there are unexpected benefits. Distance education removes barriers and enables more people to earn a college degree.

Online education has evolved from early distance learning that was accomplished via correspondence through the mail to an internet-based educational system. It allows students to earn associate, bachelor, master’s and even PhD degrees completely online. Being an essay writer online, I should say that one of the unexpected benefits of online education was its ability to remove barriers to education for those people who for a variety of reasons could not make it to a college campus.

So who are these people? Some have physical disabilities, others are emotionally challenged, and some are incarcerated because of past crimes. There are also those who are the primary caregivers to small children, commonly called “stay at home moms” although there are also stay at home dads as well. Others have work schedules or are serving in the armed forces and subject to numerous transfers around the country. Then there are veterans who may have either physical limitations or are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). For many people, the online degree programs and distance education in all its forms have enabled many people who were never able to get a degree in the past to get one now. There are several key ways that an online degree makes all this possible.

Distance Learning Has Flexibility

The main benefit of distance learning is the flexibility that it offers the student. It enables students to schedule their time to go over class material at a time that is best for them. This is not to say that distance learning is self-paced as many schools and professors have schedules and deadlines that must be met but there is the ability to determine how best to meet the requirements for each course.

One aspect of flexibility that is especially valuable is the ability to travel on business and still be able to take college courses. This is especially valuable to military personnel who are serving in remote locations and even in combat zones. The flexibility of an online degree enables military service members to earn their degree in preparation of when they become a civilian again.

Distance Learning Has Accessibility

Another great benefit of online classes is the improvements to physical accessibility. For those people with mobility issues who are either confined to a wheelchair or are temporarily immobile due to injury or surgery, distance learning allows them to stay on track toward earning their degree.

An online degree is also a great way for disabled veterans to attend class while undergoing rehabilitation or adjusting to the effects of PTSD. An online class will help ease them into college and help them adjust by keeping things orderly and giving them a sense of control according to the Veteran’s Administration. It also helps those who have problems driving if they live in areas with limited public transportation.

The accessibility offered by an online degree also applies to those who have no disabilities at all. These include people who live far from colleges that offer the desired degree and those whose work schedule makes attending college nearly impossible if attempted in the traditional format of attending classes.

Distance Learning Is Economical and Family Friendly

In most cases distance learning costs the same as attending a regular class but it also offers other ways to save money. The cost of commuting to and from school is eliminated and students can go home from work and can eat for much less before logging on to class than it would cost to eat out before attending a conventional class.

An online degree program allows parents to attend college via the internet and eliminates the need to have a baby sitter while attending class. With the parent doing homework at the same time as the child, a wonderful example is set about the importance of school work and doing homework.

Online Degree Benefits Students

There are many types of students in the world, each with their own individual situation. Each type of student will find their own type of benefit. Those students who have the drive to be successful in the online learning environment will realize those benefits and reap the rewards of earning their degree. As more colleges offer online degree programs there will be more and more students who will benefit from distance learning.

YouTube Will Stop Showing The “Dislike” Counter

YouTube Stop Showing Dislike Counter

After testing started earlier this year on a small number of users, YouTube has finally decided to hide the “Dislike” counter for all videos.

According to official information, the button can still be used, but the count will be visible only to the content creator when he explicitly searches for it in the analysis tools.

According to YouTube, viewers or subscribers was often misused the dislike button to personally attack people in the video or the attitudes and opinions expressed there. YouTube want to “create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves.”

The platform has been working to moderate inappropriate behavior for a long time. However, even with the limited damage, the “dislike” button can do, YouTube has work to do to continue protecting its community.

Nvidia And Niantic Presented Their Metaverses Proposals

Nvidia And Niantic to metaverse

Metaverse has been making a lot of noise — every industry is jumping into this new innovation after Meta, Facebook parent company triggered the technology. First, it was Microsoft who announced its entry to metaverse after Meta, and now it looks like video game companies are also following the same path.

Nvidia and Niantic are the new fighters who have just been added to the ring. The companies have announced their intentions to create a metaverse, though with different approaches.

When it comes to Nvidia, they have chosen the name “Omniverse” to represent its metaverse. The idea is practically the same — replicate the real world in a virtual space, but with Omniverse, Nvidia is proposing a more concise approach than that presented by Meta or Microsoft.

The Nvidia platform is not simply an idea with concepts to develop but a set of tools that will promote, among other things, the creation of technologies for voice recognition, facial scanning and the animation of virtual avatars. Some of those have names like Omniverse Avatar and others will be based on the omniverse platform already established by Nvidia.

Niantic, the company behind the successful mobile game Pokémon Go, has launched its own development kit — Lightship — an augmented reality application development platform to build a metaverse. Lightship has been in development since 2018 under the name Niantic Real World Platform. However, earlier this year, when the term “metaverse” was starting to ring around, the company renamed its platform to Lightship and began working to further enhance its capabilities to go beyond gaming.

Starting this week, developers will be able to access the Niantic Dev Kit for free and start building their apps for a “real metaverse.” Niantic says Lightship includes the tools and technologies that power the three main features of augmented reality — mapping, understanding and sharing in real-time.

One of the Lightship’s strengths for the metaverse is Niantic’s depth layer. It automatically adapts to the camera of any Android or iOS device, from standard RGB sensors to the newest devices with LiDAR technology. The result? a dynamic 3D map that allows you to create realistic layers that take location and context into account.

But developers will find many more tools to build applications or games for the metaverse. For now, the focus is on the hardware capabilities of mobile devices, but for next year, Niantic plans to launch a “visual positioning system”, apparently for augmented reality glasses.

Niantic would be working with Qualcomm to develop augmented reality glasses. These could become an important axis in the vision of the real metaverse.

5 Cybersecurity Problems That Requires Research in the IT space

Blockchain tech

As we move closer to a dependable global digital society, we see an increase in the number of attacks targeting the security of institutions and people. Cybercriminals use advanced technologies to improve their systems and gain better access to personal data and information that should be kept secret.

This raises a series of concerns with regards to the safe use of IoT and whether or not we should trust digital systems to guard our privacy.

After all, we are well past the point of return with more businesses moving their operations to the cloud and more people enjoying the convenience of e-commerce and remote work.

Considering these aspects, we think that the community of IT professionals with experience in cybersecurity should take a closer look at the following cybersecurity problems that plague our current society.

1. ID Theft & Data Privacy

Users’ personal information is some of the most sought-after data in the online world (by both cybercriminals and Internet giants like Google & Facebook). This happens because these data are extremely valuable.

For cybercriminals, personal data unlock doors like bank accounts, email accounts, health insurance, the possibility to apply for a job or anything else as a different person, and so on.

According to identityguard.com, over 16.7 million Americans have already been affected by ID theft and the expectations for the future don’t look promising.

For big tech companies, users’ personal data provide insight into their lives. This is important for marketing campaigns and ads, and more often than not, the collected data is sold to all sorts of third parties. This raises various concerns regarding users’ right to privacy which needs to be further investigated.

2. Ransomware

From the Colonial Pipeline attack to the Brenntag one, 2021 was full of unpleasant events for big companies. However, ransomware doesn’t only target the big guys – individual users are at risk as well.

Plus, when a big organization is hit by a ransomware attack, the negative impact has a ripple effect and reaches the customers as well. In the case of the Colonial Pipeline, the attack resulted in an artificial fuel crisis that sent millions of Americans in a frenzy.

This had a deep impact on the local and global economy and showed how dependent we all are on these big companies and their services.

3. Cloud Attacks

When you think of cyberattacks that target clouds, the first thing that comes to mind is the iCloud attack during which various celebrities had their “juicy” photos exposed. This was a clear invasion of privacy, but cybercriminals don’t really care about that.

However, this is only the attack that stuck with the public. Still, behind the scenes, cloud attacks happen a lot more often than we’d like to consider. Luckily, reliable cloud services implement heavy security protocols which help keep everything secure.

But in a world where most of us use cloud services (at a personal or professional level), we should discuss this topic a bit more. After all, a company can implement the best security system there is and still lose everything over a cloud hack.

4. Machine Learning (ML) & Artificial Intelligence (AI) Vulnerabilities

We live in an age of impressive technological advancement and we owe this (in part) to new technologies like ML and AI.

However, the same technologies we use to improve systems and make processes more efficient can also be used to identify the best targets for a cyberattack (just to give an example).

Furthermore, these technologies can be used to improve the efficiency of an attack and make it so smart that current technologies may not even detect it on time.

5. Healthcare Cybersecurity

Did you know that healthcare cyber attacks increase by 55% in 2020? The pandemic and a lack of proper cybersecurity systems in most big healthcare institutions turned them into easy targets for cyberattacks.

The risks are incredibly high in this case since many people’s lives depend on the good functioning of medical equipment. Also, the healthcare system collects and processes extremely sensitive patient data. Therefore, healthcare cybersecurity is one of the big problems we need to tackle as soon as possible.

Wrap Up

When you gather all the big problems of the cyber world it starts to seem like we don’t really have a choice and our dream of a digital global society may never be realized. However, things are not that dark.

Many organizations and individuals manage to go through life unblemished by cyberattacks by simply using basic protection methods and choosing their collaborators wisely. Successful attacks do happen, but it does take plenty of work to infiltrate these organizations and find their weak spots.

So let’s not lose hope and work together to find better solutions to our current problems.

LPDDR5X: Samsung Presented Its Next-Generation RAM For Smartphones

Samsung LPDDR5X

Samsung Electronics has announced that it has produced the first LPDDR5X (Low Power Double Data Rate 5X) memory — comes with improvements in capacity, speed and power consumption.

The new memory, according to the company, was designed to give further impetus to the growth of areas such as “5G, artificial intelligence and metaverse” where high computing speeds are required.

Until now, the cutting-edge technology was LPDDR5, which is what all mobile phones with the Snapdragon 888 use. The new standard will presumably be completely adopted by LPDDR5 in many areas over the next few years.

Samsung claims that its new RAM memory will have a processing speed 1.3 times faster than the LPDDR5 announced in 2018. In terms of capacity, they will be able to offer up to 64 GB per module. Thanks to the 14-nanometer manufacturing process, the new DRAM consumes about 20% less than the LPDDR5.

In addition, the technology used allows the data transfer speed to be increased by 30%, from 6.4 Gbps of LPDDR5 RAM to 8.5 Gbps of LPDDR5x RAM.

Samsung does not specify in its press release when manufacturers will make the LPDDR5X RAM chips available. According to some reports, they could arrive in 2023.

Instagram Is Getting Ready To Launch Paid Subscriptions

Instagram Paid Subscriptions

Instagram is gearing up to launch a new feature in the form of paid subscriptions that will benefit both users and content creators of the platform.

It will allow users to see “Exclusive Stories” from their favorite influencers as long as they pay a monthly subscription. According to TechCrunch, the novelty is just around the corner and could soon reach the app.

The social network also added prices to its application in the AppStore for the United States. According to TechCrunch, subscriptions cost $0.99 and $4.99.

Instagram Paid Subscription plans

Paid subscriptions will allow influencers to sell access to additional content, much like Patreon does. The new feature will be part of a program that Instagram and its parent company Meta have launched to bring influencers to the platform. It includes the distribution of advertising revenue and the ability to accept donations during live broadcasts.

There was no official release from Instagram yet. The head of the company, Adam Mosseri, spoke about plans to launch paid subscriptions in May 2021. In addition, the company is considering the market for NFT, unique digital collectables — from memes to art works.

Why Facebook Ads Fail — Typical Problems and Solutions

Facebook ads stories

At first glance, Facebook advertising looks simple, which is why small businesses may attempt to manage social media campaigns in-house. In reality, successful promotion requires a special kind of expertise. If you are determined to manage your own Facebook ads, consider the typical pitfalls below.

Ignoring Facebook’s Rules

Like any popular platform, Facebook has a set of guidelines for businesses. They determine the types of content allowed in ads, the amount of text, quality of images, integration of links, etc. Failure to comply can result in serious consequences. For example, Facebook blocked my website is a common grievance. The guidelines are your starting point, and there are a plethora of expert guides online.

Targeting the Wrong Audience

Any successful campaign begins with the buyer persona. Who do you want to see your ads? The network offers dozens of criteria for fine-tuning related to demographics, age, location, occupation interests, and even religious beliefs. You may target males or females of a particular age, married people or singletons, consumers who have recently bought a car, school leavers, etc.

Aside from making sure that your ads are shown to the proper audience, you need to make them appealing to these users. This also requires in-depth research before rolling out the campaign.

Failure to Track Conversions or Click-Through-Rate

Creating and launching an ad is only the beginning. You need reliable metrics to track the performance of the campaign and make adjustments when necessary. Modern software tools for digital marketers allow them to track the number of conversions for each ad, the CTR, and more.

Irrelevant Links

Every ad must contain a link to your website. At the same time, you need to choose the landing page properly. For example, if the ad is for a particular product, do not send your potential customers to the “About Us” page or another product from the catalog.

No A/B Testing

A/B testing is a cost-effective way to compare different versions of the same ad. By tracking the response, companies understand which of their ads is the most engaging, so it will generate more conversions. These tests will help your company make the most of its social media spend.

Boring or Stock Images

Photos and videos are always more important than ad copy. They must prompt users to click on your ads. Every advertisement needs an image and it should be a compelling one. Using stock photos is convenient, but they look generic. Remember that you have only a fraction of a second to catch the attention of a person scrolling their feed. Use colorful, original, and vibrant images to make your ads stand out.

Relying on Facebook Boost

Facebook Boost can turn any post into an ad instantly. All you need to do is select your budget, audience, and campaign duration. On the downside, the targeting options are extremely limited, and you cannot choose placements or set specific objectives. Boosting posts is lazy and ineffective.
